Promoting chess tournaments and events

We will bring people to your tournament and make sure people hear about it

The most common problem of a good tournament is empty boards. The regulations are well thought out, the venue is booked, the prizes are bought, but there are no players: the announcement went out late, the wrong people saw it, signing up was awkward.

Every week we gather people for our own chess evenings, and we know how to do it beyond the textbook. We do the same for other people's tournaments: announcements in the club's channels, an event card in the app with two-tap sign-up, personal invitations to players in your city, filming and a report afterwards.

What promotion includes

An announcement in the club's channels

The Telegram channel and city chats: the people there already go out to play in the evenings. It is the shortest route to those who will actually come

An event card in the app

The tournament appears in the Vibe Chess events listing: people see the date and place and sign up in two taps, and you get the list of players in advance

Invitations to players in your city

The club has people who have already played in your city. They receive a personal invitation, not an ad in their feed

Filming and clips

We film the tournament and edit short videos: they are watched by the people who will come next time. One evening gives a month of content

Copy and design of the announcement

The title, the description, the poster, the conditions of entry. A badly written announcement is the most common reason nobody turns up to a good tournament

A report after the tournament

The final standings, photos and a follow-up post. This is what a second tournament grows from

If you would rather do it yourself, our instructions are open: how to get players, how to get the press to cover a tournament, what to film at a tournament, collaborations with bloggers.

Four ways of working

A one-off announcement

Your tournament goes into our channels and into the app's events listing. The simplest way in if you just need a few more players

Full support

We take over recruiting players entirely: announcements, sign-up, reminders before the tournament, filming and the report

A series of tournaments

Not a single event but a regular one: the tournament gains its own audience that comes back by itself

Support for a club or federation

We help another club bring people to its own tournaments and run them through the app - without asking it to change its format

What we need from the organiser

The date, venue and format

The earlier the better: an announcement two or three weeks ahead works, an announcement three days ahead hardly does

Conditions of entry

Entry fee, prizes, age, level. All of this has to be in the announcement, otherwise people do not sign up

A contact for questions

Someone always asks about parking and arriving late. The person answering should be someone who knows the answer

Permission to film

If you want clips and photos, you need the venue's and the players' consent to filming

The rest is our part. If there is no tournament yet, only an idea, start with the step-by-step guide or hand the organisation over to us as well: host and arbiter, a turnkey tournament.

What we do not promise

Event promotion is full of easy promises, so we will say straight away where our line is.

We do not guarantee turnout

Nobody can guarantee how many people will come to a particular evening. We answer for the work: the announcements have gone out, sign-up is open, the reminders have been sent

We do not name reach in advance

Attractive audience figures get tested on tournament day. We give our expectation of numbers when discussing your date, city and format - and we give it honestly

We do not place where the decision is not ours

The media and bloggers are "we will help you arrange it", not "we will place it". How to approach them is covered separately, links below

Tell us about your tournament

Write to us: what the tournament is, the city, the date, how many people you need and whether there is an announcement already. We reply the same day - we will tell you what will work, what to expect in terms of numbers and how much it costs. If we can see that we cannot help, we will say that too.

You can also set up a tournament in the app yourself, for free - the Vibe Chess app

Frequently asked questions

How many people will you bring?

It depends on the city, the date, the format and the conditions of entry. That is why we give a number not on the website but when discussing a specific tournament - and we give an honest expectation, not a convenient one. If we can see that few people will come, we will say so straight away.

Can you guarantee a full hall?

No, and this is not the kind of service where guarantees make sense. What can be guaranteed is the work: the announcement went out on time, the event card is open for sign-up, the reminders were sent, the filming took place. That is what we answer for.

We are not the Vibe Chess club, we have our own tournament. Will you take it on?

Yes, that is the whole point of the service. We do not ask you to change the format: we promote your tournament as it is. If it is really not for our audience, we will say so plainly so that you do not pay for nothing.

How many days ahead should we start?

Two or three weeks before the tournament is good. A week is possible, but fewer people will come. Three days ahead an announcement hardly works: people already have plans for the evening.

Do we need paid traffic?

Not necessarily. First we use what costs nothing: the club's channels, the events listing in the app and personal invitations to players in your city. Paid promotion is discussed separately and only if it cannot be done without.

Do you only work in Moscow?

The online part - announcements, sign-up, the events listing, invitations - works in any city. Filming and being there in person are Moscow-based by default; travel is discussed separately.

Ours is a children's tournament. Will it work?

The club's channels are an adult audience, so for a children's tournament they will not give much. Other things do work, though: sign-up and the listing in the app, the announcement copy and materials for schools and clubs. We will tell you honestly what will work and what will not.

Can we have just the event card in the app, without the rest?

Yes. The app is free, and you can set up a tournament in it yourself - our instructions are open. The service is for cases where the organiser has no time to recruit players.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the scope: a one-off announcement and full support with filming are different things. Tell us what the tournament is and when, and we will reply the same day.

And if few people come anyway?

We will work out why: the date, the entry fee, the venue, the format or the announcement. That is more useful than excuses, and usually things change by the second tournament.

Where next

To do it yourself - how to get players and the organiser's checklist. For a brand that wants to be close to tournaments - sponsorship and branding. A turnkey event - corporate tournaments. For a venue that could host one - an evening at your venue.
