The key principle of king and pawn against king: what matters is not how far the pawn has advanced but where your king stands. If the king has got out in front of the pawn and holds the opposition, it escorts the pawn home even when the pawn is still deep in its own half.
Here White has the king on g5 with the pawn only on g3; Black has the king on g7. White to move, and the position is won (per the tablebases): the king is far ahead of its pawn, takes the opposition and pushes the black king back - the pawn simply walks up behind and goes through.
The lesson: do not rush to push the pawn - walk the king forward first. A king ahead of its pawn with the opposition settles the game however far back the pawn itself may be.
Drag a piece onto the board, or click a piece and then click the squares. The cross beside the pieces sweeps every piece of that colour off the board, and a single piece can be dragged off the edge.
The pieces will be arranged into the chosen pattern.
It is the mating side to move. Find mate in one.

If the king has reached the sixth rank in front of the pawn, it wins whoever is to move. On the fifth rank the opposition is needed.
The king. A pawn only gets through where the king supports it, so the first move is almost always a king move.
No. With a rook's pawn the enemy king sits it out in the corner and the position is drawn even with an active king.
