Rook against knight with no pawns generally ends in a draw: the exchange is not enough to win. White to move here, and the position is drawn (per the tablebases).
White has the king on e1 and the knight on d1 against the king on d3 and the rook on a2. The main thing for the weaker side is to keep the knight next to its own king: separated from the king, the knight is easily attacked by the rook and lost.
The dangerous positions are those where the king has been driven to the edge and the knight is cut off from him - then a fork or zugzwang can lose. But with the king in the centre and the knight beside it, this is a reliable draw.
