The Rapport-Jobava arises after 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.Bf4 (ECO D01). It is an aggressive hybrid: the London set-up (bishop on f4) but with the knight on c3 and quick play in the centre.
The idea is to combine the solidity of the London scheme with activity: White is ready for Nb5, e4 and a fast attack, keeping the opponent under strain. The system is light on theory but very unpleasant for Black.
It is named after Richard Rapport and Baadur Jobava, who brought it into top-level practice. A fashionable weapon for anyone who wants sharp play with White after 1.d4.
