White to move, mate in one. This is the ladder mate with two rooks - a technique that needs no help from the king: one rook cuts the king off, the other mates.
The black king on h8 is pressed against the last rank. The white rook on b7 controls the whole seventh rank; the second rook is on a1.
The solution is Ra8 mate. The rook goes to a8 and mates along the eighth rank; the king cannot step to the seventh - the rook on b7 holds it. This is the basic ladder mate for converting extra material.
