The Classical King's Indian arises after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 O-O 6.Be2 (ECO E91). This is White's main, «orthodox» set-up with natural development.
What follows is the standard King's Indian plan: Black strikes in the centre with ...e5, and once the centre closes White advances with pawns on the queenside while Black attacks the king with ...f5, ...g5 and ...h5. The play runs on opposite wings.
This is the most principled and popular line of the King's Indian, and the one Bronstein, Fischer and Kasparov grew up on. A sharp fight in which the speed of the attack matters most.
